Ok. So I thought it was time to go through some of the products I currently use since I'm completely natural. I went over the 3 main hair styles and what I do and use in a past post, so now It's time to peek at the products for when I Shampoo, Co-wash and Straighten my hair!
So, I wet my hair 3 times a week. When I 1st went natural, I didn't believe in wetting my hair more than twice a week. And twice a week was too much. I was still stuck in the "relaxer" mind frame of only washing my hair once a week. But now that I'm natural, I have to moisturize my hair more. So I wet my hair 3 times a week. Mondays I use Shampoo and Wednesday & Friday/Saturday/Sunday* I'll co-wash. Each time I wash my hair, I make sure to pre-poo. It's become a very important step in my regimen.
* Friday, Saturday or Sunday- I normally co-wash on Friday but if my hair is still in good condition and don't feel like doing it and if I'm going out on Friday I'll do my hair Saturday
Shampoo wash Day

R. Shea Moisture Thickening Shampoo
Shea Moisture Curl & Shine Shampoo
TJ's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner
Crece Pelo Dominican Conditioner
Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk Moisturizer
Shea Butter |
Ok. So every Monday, I use shampoo. I use a sulfate-free shampoo both by Shea Moisture because as we all know, sulfate shamps are too harsh. I like haven't used any other sulfate-free shamps so Shea Moisture's works just right.
I'm in the mist of finding a deep conditioner, but for right now, I'm using this Dominican conditioner Crece Pelo. It's ok, nothing special. I normally mix it with TTT Conditioner to add more slippage. I sit under my steamer for 2 sessions (40mins) or if I'm lazy, I'll tie my head with a scarf and sit with it for an hour or 2. Once that's done, I'll detangle my hair slowly and then rinse it out. The pic below shows my moisturizing process.
Co-wash Day w/ Moisturizing
 |
L. Jane Carter Nourish & Shine butter
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Shea Moisture Thickening Moisture Mist
Kinky Curly Knot today Detangler
Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner spray
Herbal Essence Hydralicious
I co-wash twice a week. This is important because I've noticed that it's building the moisture in my hair. especially in the back and sides. I never believed in co-washing. Once again, I thought it was another unnecessary part of taking care of your natural hair. But I gave it a try and now I'm really feeling it. I use Herbal Essence's Hydralicious Feather Weight Conditioner. OMG! I really loooove this stuff. I wish it came in a family value size. I've been using it for 2 weeks and I can't complain. I have to get another bottle.
But onto the moisturizing part. Once I've rinsed out the conditioner, I go ahead and add a good amount of Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-in. I scrunch it all over my hair. Then I spritz Shea Moisture's Thickening Moisture Mist (although I don't need it to thicken my hair, I use it because it has Biotin in it and it makes my hair feel soft) Then I add Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie and to seal all of that in, I use Jane Carter's Nourish & Shine. I rub all of that in and my hair feels soooooo good!
Styler
Excuse the hair.
White- Shea Butter mix
Green- Eco Styler Gel
Orange- Jane Carter Nourish & Shine
Spritz bottle- Water, KCKT, Jojoba Oil
Once I'm done moisturizing, I go ahead and add a butter and styler. I section my hair, I add Shea Butter from root to end then I add a little bit of Nourish & Shine and for some hold, I add a little bit of Eco Styler gel. That's the key to my Braid-outs/Twist-outs. Eco Styler provides the perfect hold that will prevent my hair from frizzing on the 2 or 3 day. It's PERFECT!
Straightened
R. TRESemmé Heat Tamer Spray
IC Fantasia Heat Protectant Serum
I don't straighten my hair often, surprising, but when I do I use these 2 products. I also use these for when I'm blow drying my hair for when I'm about to get my hair braided. These are self explanatory. Once I've rinse the conditioner out, I use KCKT as my leave-in then I spritz the heat tamer or use the serum all over my wet hair. Then I blow dry. That's it.
Braids
R. African Royale Braid and Extension spray
Oil Mix (Sweet Almond, Coconut and Rosemary oil)
Jojoba Oil
As discussed in a pervious post. I used these when I have my hair in braids. All I do is warm my oil mix for a mini scalp massage, I spray my hair with the braid spray and then I seal with jojoba oil.
Tools
|
So these are aaaall the tool I use on my hair. I know it looks crazy because I know a lot of naturals that don't use tool at all. Kudos to them but NOT ME! I need something to comb out my coily kinkys. I use the brush for when I'm doing my french braids. I have to brush my edges, the back and the middle so it can lay flat. when I get length and start doing buns (YAAAYYYY!!!) I'll use a bigger one that I have. The tail comb is for french braids as well. I have to part my hair and that comb is a must have for that. The 3rd comb, a small wide tooth, I use for when my hair is straight. I use it to comb my straight hair. The pink pik if for my braid-out/twist-outs. If I want a little more volume, I just use that to lift my roots. The styling brush a.k.a Denman-like a.k.a detangler brush is for when I'm doing my twist-out/braid-outs. If I want more shrinkage with my braid-out/twist-out I'll use this. and last but not least the imfamous WIDE TOOTH COMB used for detangling.
So there you have it. All the products I currently use. I'm going to continue to use them because they work for me.
